Note: If you want an ACE to apply to all
descendants without exception, you must select
the “Apply to child folders” and “Apply
to child les” options in addition to this option.

Mac OS X Server propagates ACL permissions at two well-dened times:
By the kernel at le or folder creation time—when you create a le or folder, the Â
kernel determines what permissions the le or folder inherits from its parent folder.
When initiated by administrator tools—for example, when using the Propagate Â
Permissions option in Server Admin.
The following gure shows how Server Admin propagates two ACEs (managers and
design_team) after ACE creation. Bold text represents an explicit ACE and regular text
an inherited ACE.
