The green section on the
left shows the name given
to the computer list.
Member machines of the
group are indicated in red.
Think of the computers as
a pointer to the MAC
address in this example.
When the machine starts,
it queries the LDAP server
with its MAC address, and
retrieve any groups to
which the computer
belongs. Finally, the MCX
settings associated with
the group, which are
shown in the blue box,
are applied to all
members of the group.
The corresponding computer list in WGM is
shown to the right.
The settings made in WGM appear as values
on the group object in the apple-
mcxsettings attribute. This is an XML
format of the managed settings that are
desired on the machine.
One of the nice additions to 10.4 server can
be seen in the Details tab on the following
page. When clicked on, this gives a list of all
the MCX data that is managed on the object.
Sometimes there are applications that have their own plist that you want to manage. Using the details section, you
can add any plist file to a user, group, or a computer list object.
