The Finder
An integral part of the Mac OS is the Finder, the software that lets you see the
files and folders on your disks, work on the desktop, and open applications and
files. The Finder also lets you search and manage the information on your disks.
Double-click the hard disk icon on your desktop to open the Finder or
click the Finder icon on the Dock.
Sidebar
The Sidebar is the pane at the left side of the Finder window. It gives you easy
access to items you use frequently. The Sidebar is divided in two areas. The top
part may contain icons for your computer, the network, your hard disk or any
connected disks or shares. The bottom part contains icons for personal folders,
including your home folder (a house with your name), and folders inside your
home folder that you may use often (such as Documents or Pictures).
