Creating Buttons
One of the advantages of creating your own motion background is that you
can design and use custom fonts for your buttons. In this exercise you will cre-
ate buttons, add an overlay, and select the highlight colors.
1 In the main menu, drag the mouse over the Shark Encounter text to draw
a button.
The new button shows up in the Inspector as Button 1.
To make the Button Outlines active you can choose Menu > View
> Show Button Outline and Name, or click the Button Outlines button at
the bottom of the Menu Editor.
2 Name this button Shark Encounter in the Inspector.
3 Option-drag the Shark Encounter button down to make a copy of the but-
ton for the chapters text, then name your button Chapters in the Inspector.
4 Option-drag the Chapters button to make a copy of the button for the
slideshow text, then name your button Slideshow in the Inspector.
5 Position your buttons to make sure they don’t overlap. Don’t worry about
the exact placement, we’re about to align them.
Aligning the Buttons
You previously learned that Dynamic Guides are useful in aligning elements
of your project. By batch-selecting your buttons you can align them all at the
same time instead of individually.
1 Batch-select the three buttons you created by pressing the Command key
and clicking them one at a time.
